Song lyrics: “You’ll think of me” by Keith Urban

I’m recently watching American Idol 2013 and am just enjoying the judges sans Randy Jackson (No offense man). Anyhow, we’re down to the top 10 and it’s only now that I’m discovering what a talented artist Keith Urban is. ^__^ Prior to this season I only knew him as another country singer but ever since I heard some of his songs in YouTube, (plus his live performances), well, count me in as a fan. Out of all his songs that I’ve heard, two songs stuck out for me: “Only You Can Love Me This Way” (because of the awesome guitar-playing skills) and “You’ll Think of Me” (whose lyrics are featured below).

I woke up early this morning around 4am
With the moon shining bright as headlights on the interstate
I pulled the covers over my head and tried to catch some sleep
But thoughts of us kept keeping me awake
Ever since you found yourself in someone else’s arms
I’ve been tryin’ my best to get along
But that’s OK
There’s nothing left to say, but

Take your records, take your freedom
Take your memories, I don’t need’em
Take your space and take your reasons
But you’ll think of me
And take your cap and leave my sweater
‘Cause we have nothing left to weather
In fact I’ll feel a whole lot better
But you’ll think of me, you’ll think of me

I went out driving trying to clear my head
I tried to sweep out all the ruins that my emotions left
I guess I’m feeling just a little tired of this
And all the baggage that seems to still exist
It seems the only blessing I have left to my name
Is not knowing what we could have been
What we should have been
So

Take your records, take your freedom
Take your memories, I don’t need’em
Take your space and take your reasons
But you’ll think of me
And take your cap and leave my sweater
‘Cause we have nothing left to weather
In fact I’ll feel a whole lot better
But you’ll think of me

Someday I’m gonna run across your mind
Don’t worry, I’ll be fine
I’m gonna be alright
While you’re sleeping with your pride
Wishing I could hold you tight
I’ll be over you
And on with my life

So take your records, take your freedom
Take your memories, I don’t need’em
And take your cap and leave my sweater
‘Cause we have nothing left to weather
In fact I’ll feel a whole lot better
But you’ll think of me

So take your records, take your freedom
Take your memories, I don’t need’em
Take your space and all your reasons
But you’ll think of me
And take your cap and leave my sweater
‘Cause we got nothing left to weather
In fact I’ll feel a whole lot better
But you’ll think of me, you’ll think of me, yeah

And you’re gonna think of me
Oh someday baby, someday

Although the theme of the song is a little depressing, I appreciate that the lyrics are very expressive and really gives off a clear and crisp presentation of the feelings involved. And Keith Urban’s voice is just soooo soothing and really, really right for the song. If I were the girl he’s talking about in the song, I would really think of him (hehe) and think twice about the decision to leave him.

Lyrics: “I know him by heart” by Vonda Shepard

I first learned about this song through the hit TV show in the 90s, Ally McBeal. I appreciated this song both in how it echoes the sentiments of the protagonist within the show and in how as a standalone song, it just has very touching, very emotive lyrics.

There’s a secret path I follow to a place

No one can find, where I meet my

Perfect someone, I’ve kept hidden in my mind

Where my heart makes my decisions

‘Til my dream becomes a vision

And the love I feel makes him real someday

‘Cause I know he’s out there

Somewhere, just beyond my reach

Though I’ve never really touched him

Or ever heard him speak

Though we’ve never been together

We’ve never been apart, no we’ve never met

Haven’t found him yet but I know him by heart

Am I living an illusion?

Wanting something I can’t see

If I compromise, I’d be living lies

Pretending love’s not meant to be

‘Cause I know my heart’s worth saving

And I know that he’ll be waiting

So I’ll hold on and I’ll stay strong ’til then

‘Cause I know he’s out there

Somewhere, just beyond my reach

Though I’ve never really touched him

Or ever heard him speak

Though we’ve never been together

We’ve never been apart, no we’ve never met

Haven’t found him yet but I know him by heart

No we’ve never met haven’t found him yet

But I know him by heart, no we’ve never met

Haven’t found him yet but I know him by heart
